What is your role at Knock?

As an agent in Knock’s Dallas market, I help guide customers through the entire process of buying and selling homes, but in the reverse order from traditional real estate with our Trade-In program. With Knock, our customers find their dream home first. Then, we help them get their home market-ready in order to sell for the most value and so that they don't have to worry about the stresses of living in the home they’re trying to sell. As part of this overall process, I use my local market knowledge to advise customers on pricing their homes to sell; I also negotiate contracts, both on the home they're buying and the one they're selling, to get my clients the best deals and make their experiences as seamless as possible.

Why did you decide to join Knock?

I joined Knock because it was a great opportunity for my career. I originally came from property management and worked with investors and then turned to traditional real estate before joining Knock. I saw how technology could transform the real estate business and how Knock was a part of that. And I wanted to be part of it too, on the ground floor.

What do you love most about working at Knock?

I love Knock because it’s never boring here. The people I work with are great, and I think the culture is much better than many other companies out there. Although we’re a distributed company with people working all over the country, we have a solid line of communication.

What do you find most challenging about working at Knock?

The most challenging aspect of working at Knock is that we aren’t able to help everyone that needs assistance with real estate transactions. We do have some requirements that need to be met in order for the program to work efficiently, such as the need to buy and sell at the same time. Certain situations work for the Trade-In program, and some don’t; we simply can’t be a fit for everyone. But, since I work directly with our customers, it’s rewarding to see how we can help so many people get into the house of their dreams and sell their old one.

Who was your most memorable customer?

The G family, Eric and Ami, were my most memorable customers. They were one of Knock's original customers when we launched in Dallas Fort-Worth. We’ve been with them through the entire process, from when they began building their new custom home from the ground up, to when they sold the home their children grew up in.

What’s your number one piece of advice for home buyers and sellers?

It’s easy to think about the worst-case scenario when you want to buy or sell a home (or do both). People get worried easily, and my number one piece of advice would be to trust the experts and the process. As agents, we do this day in and day out, so we can help guide you through the entire transaction. We have the same goals as you, and we’re willing to do what it takes to get there.

What is your role at Knock?

As a recruiter, I am always interacting with candidates and interviewing potential new hires over video chat. Through these conversations, my goal is to understand individuals’ past career experiences and skills. Learning more about them allows me to see how candidates can be a benefit to Knock, but also how our company can benefit them as an employee. When I’m not talking to people about career opportunities, I’m busy searching online to find new talent using various sourcing strategies. I recruit for all of our open positions all over the U.S.!

Why did you decide to join Knock?

As a recruiter that works in the field of Human Resources, I was very impressed with Knock’s core values; Knock’s belief in its POPSICLE culture and values really aligned with my personal beliefs and what I was looking for in a new company.

What do you love most about working at Knock?

POPSICLE

Of course, I love the people I work with on a daily basis at Knock. But aside from the employees, I love the flexibility and trust we have in each other to work hard and get our jobs done. The flexibility to work remotely is a definite perk, and as I mentioned before, our POPSICLE company culture is something I really value. The way we balance the enjoyment of life and making impact is unique. I also love how we can communicate through the use of technology, like with our bi-weekly “All Hands” company video calls that bring everyone together.

What do you find most challenging about working at Knock?

As I mentioned above, being able to work remotely is great, but it also comes with some challenges. I have never worked 100% remotely before, so there was definitely an initial learning curve. I’ve always used technology in my past roles, but at Knock, I am communicating with my peers completely through technology, whether on email, chat, or video. It was something I needed to adjust to when I first joined. But that same POPSICLE culture keeps us all connected to our mission, our culture and each other, and has helped me navigate the adjustment.

What was your most memorable recruit story?

Hiring for our sales team has been really memorable. I’ve met with so many great candidates that we ended up hiring, which was awesome. I found one employee through LinkedIn and actually reached out to her. When I was able to tell her she got the job, she was so excited and grateful to start. It was really awesome to see that she was so eager about the opportunity.

What’s your number one piece of advice for home buyers and sellers?

Based on my experience, I’d say to trust the process. Working with subject matter experts, like our real estate experts here at Knock, is a great step in the right direction. I’d say to listen to what your local experts have to say, consider their suggestions, and you’ll find success when buying and selling homes.

What do you like to do in your personal time?

I have two dogs, black lab mixes named Bane and Leila, so we’re always playing with them. I also have a two-year old daughter, so we’re always keeping her busy. In our free time, we’re usually visiting family and friends, so we’re always on the go. We also spend time at home, and usually have a project; most recently, my husband built me my basement home office when I signed on with Knock! When it comes to my personal hobbies, I love to go to yard sales and find antiques.

What is your role at Knock?

I manage a team of five frontend engineers – frontend engineers get to build products that our customers actually touch and feel, like our website or mobile app. My team builds products and code, and I have an overarching vision that guides all the projects we have happening within the company. I also aid in removing roadblocks, making sure my team stays on track, and interfacing with other members of the team to keep open lines of communication. I also still do a decent amount of building products, but my day-to-day responsibilities are more focused on management tasks, like recruiting and hiring. Managing people also means I uphold our POPSICLE company culture and inspire my team to keep our company’s mission in mind at all times. We’re a collaborative team so I try to keep work fun and interesting with contests and competitions. At Knock, we believe that strong opinions are important, but that we all need to be open to new ideas, which is what I relay to my team.

Why did you decide to join Knock?

I came from several startups before and also have my own company, so I’ve always been interested in fast-paced work environments. After I left my last company, I started doing consulting, but before long, I was hungry for a new challenge. Consulting was great and I gained valuable experience, but I wanted to make a bigger impact and do something more exciting. I wanted to be able to live my passion, make a difference, and be part of a positive change in people’s lives. With Knock, I discovered that I could do all of that and more. It’s amazing to see how much of an impact we have on our customers’ lives.

What do you love most about working at Knock?

From an engineering perspective, the way we build software is my favorite thing. A lot of people say they develop in an agile way and iterate, but we actually do it. At Knock, we iterate small and build things in a way that works in the moment to get the idea out there. Then, we build further from there if the project is worth pursuing. We’re very data-driven, and only build things when the numbers show we need to. The Knock Deals website is a great example of our agile environment; it started off as an email to a small number of customers. We asked customers if they were interested in receiving home deals in their area, and they were. After a few iterations, we built the Knock Deals experience we have today. I’ve come from places where we’ve built things that are just thrown away, and that’s not how it works here at Knock. It’s great to see that our efforts are paying off in a positive way.

Aside from that, our company culture is something I really love; we know how to hire the right people. With the right people that share the same values, it’s easier to communicate opinions and thoughts and be collaborative. We've all heard the phrase, "Dress for the job you want." I say "Start doing the job you want.” At Knock, that effort doesn't go unnoticed.

Many companies lose their best people because they don't trust their employees. At Knock, you're empowered to take risks and make mistakes. You are able to shine naturally, and you learn so many things from the amazing people around you. Knock truly gets it. It's such a refreshing, rewarding place to be. I'm so glad I found Knock.

What do you find most challenging about working at Knock?

I would say the most challenging thing is scaling. We are a rapidly-growing startup, so of course there are always going to be unforeseen challenges that may arise as you scale quickly. You can prepare as much as possible, but you most likely will still face challenges. Fortunately, we have an awesome leadership team of founders who have built other successful companies, so I trust them to make it work and to continue our success.

What is your favorite project you've worked on at Knock and how has it impacted our customers' experience?

My favorite project was a recent one, where we rewrote and redesigned our website’s CMA form. It was a super fun task to work on, because the original form was something I was a part of when I first joined Knock. Since then, we made a few tweaks to it, but we just recently did a complete overhaul. The new CMA form has definitely impacted our customer experience, which is great to see. Our conversions have been up, and it just provides a much better user experience for prospects and customers.

What’s your number one piece of advice for home buyers and sellers?

You may have a checklist of items of things you definitely want or need, but as you keep searching, you’ll find that a single house probably won’t check off every single box. But, that doesn’t mean you should just take it off your list. Sometimes things you think are deal breakers aren’t really deal breakers, so take that into consideration when looking for a new home. I’d also say know your numbers throughout the process. If you are educated about the numbers, you’ll be able to better compare offers on your home, know how much new home you can afford, and determine how much profit you’ll walk away with.

What do you like to do in your personal time?

I have two sons who are almost three and almost one, so most of my nights and weekends are spent with family. Knock's distributed structure makes that easier for me; I don't live in one of our main markets, so I'm able to work from home 24/7. As far as hobbies go, I’m a drummer, so of course, I like to drum. I also like exercising and going to the gym, watching movies (in the actual movie theater, which is rare these days), and new TV shows. I love anything recreational and active.

What is your role at Knock?

I manage and oversee the entire listings and home prep process for Knock. The minute a deal is signed, myself or my team follows it all the way through until the house goes under contract. We assess what the house needs for listing preparations, work on estimates with contractors, oversee and manage the entire repair process. Once home prep is complete and we’ve done a final walk-through of the property for quality and completion, it’s transitioned to our listing coordinator. She schedules photos to be taken of the home, gathers listing details, schedules the delivery of the for sale sign and lockbox, and perfects the listing on the MLS everything from the perfect description of why the next homeowner will love the home to a virtual tour of the property for buyers to explore. From there, the property goes live! (The MLS, or Multiple Listing Service, syndicates the listing across the web to sites like Zillow and Trulia for every potential buyer to see). Once the home is for sale, we manage the listing online and analyze its performance to see what changes need to be made in order to get the house sold.

Why did you decide to join Knock?

I had been scrolling through Facebook and advertisements for Knock kept coming up on my feed. I took a look at the website and a lightbulb immediately went off. Everything Knock does for the customer is what they need when it comes to buying and selling homes. The home prep process in particular is so beneficial to so many homeowners looking to sell and the entire Knock process is something I knew I wanted to be a part of. I previously worked for a general contractor that operated across 14 states. We worked with everyone from banks to investors to fix up the homes from start to finish. I was responsible for assessing the state of the homes and making a case for which repairs were necessary in order to successfully sell them. That experience helped me land the role I have now at Knock.

What do you love most about working at Knock?

I love that we’re changing the dynamics of the real estate industry and are doing so in a startup environment. Being part of a startup culture allows me to push my ideas forward and actually be heard in order to make an impact. The other element I love is the ability to change people’s lives. I personally just went through the Knock Home Trade-In process, and with two young kids, I would have never been able to do it on my own. I know there are so many people in my situation and being able to help them find their dream home and sell the old one is something I value.

What do you find most challenging about working at Knock?

The home prep element of any home selling process can be difficult and stressful at times. It can be a challenge to keep customers stress-free throughout the process, but it’s rewarding in the end. Because we are a startup that is growing quickly, my team sometimes runs into a bandwidth issue. We need to adapt in order to make things happen as a small team - but we always pull through!

Who was your most memorable customer?

I have had quite a few memorable customers and often they have similar stories; they don’t have enough money out-of-pocket to make the changes they need in order to sell their home at a desirable price. One customer, in particular, just experienced the loss of her husband and was looking to move out of their home as soon as possible. But, she didn’t have the money she needed upfront in order to get the home ready to list. With Knock’s program, we were able to advance up to $10,000 for her to get the house ready to sell. After the home preparation was complete, she received multiple offers and ultimately accepted one that was way over asking price. She was so thankful for what Knock was able to do for her and of course so happy that she got more than she was asking for!

What’s your number one piece of advice for home buyers and sellers?

Be patient! Although Knock makes the buying and selling of homes much easier than it’s ever been, there can be stressful times throughout the process. Getting the home ready for market, especially, can be stressful, but if you just trust us and the process, it’ll all work out in the end. It doesn’t happen overnight, but luckily we handle most of the work for you!

Justyne & her family

What do you like to do in your personal time?

To be honest, I don’t have much personal time. Truthfully, I’m working a lot and when I’m not, I spend time at home with my family. I have a 6 month old and a 3 year old, so they keep me plenty busy!

What is your role at Knock?

As a Transaction Manager, I am the gatekeeper of Knock real estate deals, making sure the entire home buying and selling process goes smoothly. Once the property goes under contract, I manage everything behind the scenes - from making sure earnest money is delivered on time to coordinating with the title company, real estate agents, and lenders. I keep open communication between all parties to make sure everything is flowing and going as planned. Of course, customer service is also part of my role, making sure our customers remain informed and happy.

Why did you decide to join Knock?

When considering joining Knock, I was really impressed with how exciting the company was; a startup feel was something I’ve always loved and wanted to be a part of. I like places that think outside of the box and Knock was something new and different in the genre of real estate. I felt the Knock Home Trade-in concept handled everything that most people need when they’re looking to buy and sell their homes. Knock provides an overall solution and is the answer for so many people, and I love being a part of that.

Shay Frazier quote why did you decide to join Knock

What do you love most about working at Knock?

Being part of something new and different in the world of real estate is what I love most about working here. I also admire Knock’s company culture and the fact that we have the opportunity to work remotely if we choose to. Knowing that Knock hired me because they trust that I’ll do whatever it takes to get my job done, no matter where I’m working from, is something I really value.

What do you find most challenging about working at Knock?

We work in a startup environment, which is something that attracted me to Knock, but of course, it comes with some challenges. We experience internal process changes from time to time, and it can be challenging to acclimate to new ways of doing things. But, it keeps us on our toes! Plus, it is ultimately to the benefit of our customers’ home buying and selling experience, which is why we do what we do.

Who was your most memorable customer?

I would say my most memorable customers have been Judge and Jeanie Hayes. They were a dual-state deal, which means they were buying a new home in South Carolina and selling their old house in Dallas. The part of South Carolina that they wanted to move too was relatively far from the central area Knock operates in. Because of this, and because of some health issues that occurred in their family, there were delays and hills to climb throughout the process. But, we made it as easy as possible for the couple and got them closed! In the end, I was proud that our team accomplished this, and happy for the customers.

Judge and Jeanie Hays memorable customers

“Simply stated, Knock took what looked impossible and made it possible. After having spent 45 years working in radio, this is one company and one agent I could definitely endorse.”

- Judge Hayes

What’s your number one piece of advice for home buyers and sellers?

Patience! Buyers and sellers need to have patience throughout the process. I want them to know that we are here to serve them and are doing everything in our power to make the entire experience go smoothly. Of course, we don’t live in a perfect world, and sometimes things don’t always go as planned. But, if you have patience, everything will work out in the end.

I’m pretty boring and a homebody for the most part. But, I like doing fun activities with my family, like bowling and attending local sporting events. My kids play sports and my husband and I dabble in golf, so we are pretty active when we can be. I also love to travel, especially to beach destinations. So far, my absolute favorite is Hawaii - it’s so peaceful and beautiful.

What is your role at Knock?

I am a Licensed Local Expert in Charlotte, NC. My primary role is to explain to new customers how Knock can make buying a new home while selling another an easy process. I also help my clients through the overall process of finding and moving into their dream home, selling their current home for top dollar, and making the experience as stress-free as possible.

Why did you decide to join Knock?

Ride the wave or get crushed. Knock is at the forefront of transformation in home buying and selling, which was a main reason why I joined. Plus, I worked in both startup and sales atmospheres before I even got into real estate. When I discovered Knock, it was the perfect match; the company would allow me to combine all my experiences in a way that is upending the traditional, old approach to real estate.

What do you love most about working at Knock?

I love being able to help people find their next home while eliminating the stress of traditional home buying and selling. I don’t know how anyone can drive to their attorney’s office in a moving truck, sell their old home, drive to a different office to buy their new home, to then move into that new home and unpack that moving truck — all in one day. It’s impossible! The timing of traditional real estate is so unpredictable and reliant on so many different elements. Working in conjunction with the buyer of your old home and the seller of your new one is too difficult, which can make traditional real estate so frustrating.

friction to make the whole process more seamless which is so helpful to buyers and sellers

Knock takes away that friction to make the whole process more seamless, which is so helpful to buyers and sellers. It’s just one of the reasons why I love working here. So many of my clients have told me they just wouldn’t have been able to make their move without the help of Knock. Giving them that opportunity is awesome and rewarding for me.

What do you find most challenging about working at Knock?

It can be challenging to get people out of the mindset of traditional real estate — working with their neighbor or their mom or someone else their friend used — in order to get on board with using Knock. People are comfortable with, and have demand for, the convenience that comes from Starbucks and Amazon. But, some people just aren’t there yet when it comes to real estate and houses. It’s also difficult to get people to understand all of the differentiating factors between Knock and our competitors. We offer so much more, so it can be a challenge for people to understand all of the unique benefits.

Who was your most memorable customer?

I’m currently helping an older couple to buy a new home. The husband has never bought or sold a home before, and neither of them have ever used a program like the Knock Home Trade-in. They are coming from living in a townhome and really wanted to fulfill their dream of living in a single family home. I helped them find a house with ample space and their desired surroundings. The wife is constantly telling me how happy she is with what we were able to help them buy. As an agent, it’s just a great feeling to make someone’s dreams come true in that way.

What’s your number one piece of advice for home buyers and sellers?

It’s always important to keep reasonable expectations in terms of the overall real estate market. For instance, the current market is shifting and trending down, but it has been a sellers’ market for months. So sellers think it’s still a sellers’ market and they can ask for so much more, while buyers think they can put in an extremely low offer and still get the house. Both sides need to remain reasonable when it comes to asking and offer prices.

Know Your Knockstars: Eric Baham

KNOCK, KNOCK

COME ON IN

What is your role at Knock?

I’m a Licensed Local Expert. Technically the definition of that role is a full-time, salaried Knock agent. Personally, I feel we’re like the customer’s spiritual guide through the process of home buying and selling -- like a “shaman,” if you will. Sometimes you simply have to be the person who calms the customer down. This is a very stressful process for most people, but we’ve done this hundreds of times. I have customers who call me late at night or early in the morning, even just to ask questions they may know the answer to, but they want reassurance. And they are entitled to it -- this is likely the biggest transaction of their lives. So I see a big part of my role as being calm and pragmatic through the process so I can help them get to the closing table with confidence.

Why did you decide to join Knock?

I was one of Knock’s very first employees. I come from a corporate background, but real estate has always been my passion. I’ve had my license for 14 years and at one point I finally decided to jump into it full-time. Our Co-founder and CEO Sean reached out to me on LinkedIn to get coffee, and he explained what Knock was trying to do, how we would answer a lot of the unknowns the average consumer deals with and relieve them from the biggest stressors they face. He needed someone with a corporate background who could handle volume to help get things off the ground in Atlanta. For me, that was a dream situation. It was like a job tailored to my skills both in real estate and prior to that.

Knock was and is on the leading edge of real estate, and I believe this is what the mainstream future of our industry will look like. I would rather be on the leading edge now, then trying to catch up in 10 years.

What do you love most about working at Knock?

By far my favorite thing is working with a group of people who are dedicated to making the real estate industry better. Of course, the role of any business is to make money for its shareholders -- no matter what else is in their mission statement, that’s their bottom line. Knock is the first company I’ve worked for in any industry where the bottom line purpose, the reason it was founded, is making this process more accessible for people who wouldn’t be able to make it happen otherwise.

What do you find most challenging about working at Knock?

The biggest challenge I face is peoples’ romanticized view of what real estate is and what the agent role is. Blame it on TV I guess, whether it’s Phil Dunphy from Modern Family or pretty much any show on HGTV. There are so many moving pieces that the customer doesn’t even know about or that have changed since they last sold a house 5 or 10 years ago. People always want to know why something can’t be more simple. There’s a lot more involved than a yard sign, a contract and closing.

And that’s for your average real estate transaction. What we’re doing at Knock with our Home Trade-in is so much more complex. There are technically 3 transactions involved. I’ll be honest, when we first came up with the idea I was skeptical. But once we fleshed it out, it was like capturing lightning in a bottle. Now the biggest challenge is convincing people who were skeptics like myself, and then guiding them through the process.

Who was your most memorable customer?

By far I have to say it was a woman by the name of Ruth. When we inspected her house, we discovered she had 20 full-sized pet birds in basement -- large birds like cockatoos and parrots. At first I thought there was no way we could sell her home. But she was just such an awesome woman, and she explained how much these birds meant to her: During a house fire several years back, one of the birds actually found her unconscious and stayed by her side making noise until help came. So I took on the sale, and Ruth’s many constant questions, and were able to show the house without the birds in it. In the end, we sold the house in a weekend for way over asking price.

What’s your number one piece of advice for home buyers and sellers?

Become a student of the industry. Do your research and listen. It may have been 10 years since the last time you sold a home, and the industry changes all the time. Do whatever you can to familiarize yourself with the process and eliminate any misconceptions. This is a huge investment and where the majority of your wealth is tied up. Your agent is there to help you and to explain, but it doesn’t hurt to learn everything you can on your own, too.

What do you like to do in your personal time?

My undergraduate degree is actually in voice, so I’m a trained singer. I like to go to the karaoke bar, or sing at events like a recent scholarship banquet. I’ve gotten to sing in the Superbowl behind Natalie Cole and in a commercial behind Stevie Wonder.

I’m also pretty active personally and as a sports dad. I don’t love running, but I know it’s good for me, so I do 5Ks every few months. It helps me zone out and not think about anything else (like work). My son is also a runner, and my daughter plays competitive volleyball. Both my kids are athletic, and my wife and I are definitely sports parents. We try to go to every race and game and tournament. If my kids like it, I love it.

What do you do at Knock?

I’m a Customer Success Specialist, or CSS (we like acronyms here at Knock!). I was the first hire on the team that helps our customers purchase a new home through the Knock Home Trade-in. No day is the same, but my main role as a CSS is to work alongside our Licensed Local Experts, aka Knock agents (or LLEs -- I told you about those acronyms!), to help our customers search for, tour and select their dream home. We provide support in helping them find the right homes based on both what’s hot on the market and what their target areas and budget are.

Why did you decide to join Knock?

I have always had a passion for real estate and customer service, so when I moved to Atlanta in 2014, I wanted to take that interest to the next level. I also wanted to be part of a startup culture that was trying to change the way people buy and sell homes. I was attracted to Knock because it really is the first true online home buying and selling platform that is revolutionizing the overall real estate industry!

What do you love most about working at Knock?

I love working with everyone at the company, and our powerful culture, which we call POPSICLE. It comes along with amazing benefits and unlimited vacation.

It’s also empowering to know the impact we’re making on the real estate industry. I learn something new each and every day and get to use great technology and tools.

More than anything, I love that everyone has the same goal: Putting the customers first and being transparent with them to deliver a better experience. Viewing our amazing Zillow reviews always brings a smile to my face because it assures me that all the families I helped search for their new home are happy and had a great experience working with us.

What do you find most challenging about working at Knock?

We’re doing something entirely different, and it can be hard to keep our clients up to speed on how our process works compared to the traditional way of doing real estate. We always try to take every client’s feedback into consideration. Consumers are used to the traditional way of working with one agent who meets them at properties on the daily. There’s definitely a learning curve, but once we explain the backbone of why we do things differently and the huge impact it has, it’s always worth it in the end.

Who was your most memorable customer?

By far a recent customer that was trying to find a new home before the birth of twins. I was in communication with the couple for months. Even though they were immediately onboard with the process, they had to see 12 properties before finding their new home. A lot of customers can become stressed in that situation, putting in multiple offers and not landing a home. But they gave great feedback and appreciated my quick response with their tour requests and overall assistance with their buying process along with their LLE. It was amazing to help the couple and their new additions to the family find and buy the home that they were dreaming of!

What’s your number one piece of advice for home buyers and sellers?

Set a goal in mind; keep a date when you and/or your family are looking to purchase a new home by. While on the hunt for a home, make a T chart to highlight your 5 must haves in your new home and be realistic about staying within your pre approval loan amount. Highlighting your 5 must haves will keep you in check with reality versus what you see on HGTV. Seeing over 30 homes within a month’s time may indicate that you might not have thought about what you and your family are really looking for. Brainstorm-Set a Goal- Regroup- Finalize!

What do you like to do in your personal time?

With no kids (yet), I really like to enjoy time with my friends, husband, and twin sister, who moved to Atlanta from Philadelphia a couple of years ago. From sporting events (Go Falcons!) to concerts, I try to book my weekends with all sorts of afternoon and evening fun. During the week, there is nothing more enjoyable than catching up on TV shows and finding new ones on Netflix and Hulu!

What is your role at Knock?

My role is ever-changing. I first joined Knock in the summer of 2016, and being a startup, it’s been a (fun!) roller coaster ride. Today I am a Licensed Local Expert and Atlanta Team Lead, and our qualifying Broker in Georgia. We do things differently at Knock, so we like to have different names for our roles. As a Licensed Local Expert, I’m a full-time, salaried real estate agent who specializes in Atlanta neighborhoods like Roswell, Alpharetta, East Cobb, Marietta, Canton, Woodstock, Johns Creek, Cumming, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, etc. I help our clients in those areas through every stage of their home buying and selling transactions. As team lead, I also advise a group of other Knock agents to keep the ship steady and make sure we’re delivering a consistent, 7-star experience.

Why did you decide to join Knock?

Our Co-founder and CEO Sean Black personally sold me on it. I was actually our very first Licensed Local Expert and the first employee after our founders. Atlanta was Knock’s first market, and when we were getting ready to launch, Sean reached out to me on LinkedIn and convinced me to meet him for coffee.

I’ve had my real estate license since 2012, and have worked for both traditional and new brokerages. Right before I joined Knock I was at one of those newer brokerages, but what Sean pitched me was something entirely different than anything I had heard of before. At that first meeting he sold me on the idea of bringing more certainty, simplicity and transparency into real estate -- it was something I could really believe in.

What do you love most about working at Knock?

Having the tools, the team and the platform to be able to work in a productive manner and an enjoyable environment is certainly part of why I love working for Knock. The best thing, though, is working for a company founded by guys who have a goal to completely revolutionize how buying and selling real estate works, all while emphasizing a people-first mentality and doing what’s right by our customers.

A lot of companies out there have a profit-first mentality, and the benefits to customers are just a byproduct. At Knock, we’re focused on delivering convenience, certainty and cost-effectiveness, and getting that right is the only way we get to making a profit. Each and every day I see how we’re genuinely trying to make a difference in people's lives. It’s just awesome, and why I’m proud to be a Knockstar.

What do you find most challenging about working at Knock?

Our business model is constantly changing, and we’re always evolving along with it. I’ll think I’m busy at one moment and then realize the next that I didn’t know what busy was. In the middle of all this, we want to continue to deliver the best possible experience for our customers. It’s exciting, but there are definitely days it can be a challenge. Fortunately, our leadership supports us in making our customers the number one priority.

Plus, there’s so much opportunity to evolve along with the business, both personally and professionally, and our leadership constantly encourages us to take advantage of opportunities for growth.

Who was your most memorable customer?

Can I say every single one? Each customer is unique, but it’s always rewarding when we can make a difference for people going through a lot. One recent customer was going through multiple life changes all at the same time: Their daughter was leaving the house to head out on her own for the very first time, her husband had just started a new job out of state, and they were figuring out what it meant for them to be empty nesters. We also had several uncontrollable issues come up during the process - a downed tree, a poor inspection on what was planned to be their new house, a few lending issues - We were at the center of the storm, which is always stressful, but they were so appreciative in the end, and our team was able to make a really difficult process as smooth and successful as possible.

What’s your number one piece of advice for home buyers and sellers?

This is likely the biggest transaction of your life, so do your due diligence, as we like to say in real estate, when it comes to the process. Don’t just go with your mom’s best friend as your agent. Sure, she may end up being the right choice for you in the end, but make sure you look into every possible option and what you’ll get out of it both in terms of equity and service.

What do you like to do in your personal time?

When I have down time, I like to spend it with my wife and our two wonderful (if hairy!) cats. I also like playing sports like ultimate frisbee, which I got into during college -- I attended the University of Georgia. I also love to travel. It’s my personal goal to visit every continent in the next 5 years.
